Pronto se requerirá que inicies sesión con una cuenta gratuita de FamilySearch para poder buscar y ver registros históricos

Beginning December 13, 2017, patrons visiting FamilySearch.org will see a prompt to register for a free FamilySearch account or to sign in to their existing account to continue enjoying all the free expanded benefits FamilySearch has to offer. Since its launch in 1999, FamilySearch has added millions of users, billions of various historical records, and many fun, new features like Family Tree, Memories, mobile apps, digital books, and dynamic help. In order to accommodate continued growth of these and future free services, FamilySearch must assure all its partners that its content is offered in a safe and secure online environment. Patrons creating a free account and signing in fulfills that need.

Patron sign in will also enable FamilySearch to satisfy the ongoing need for user authentication. This authentication can deliver rich, personalized discovery, collaboration, and help experiences. Simply put, signed-in visitors can access more searchable content and enjoy more personalized services.
"A large percentage of our current site visitors are not benefiting from much of what FamilySearch has to offer because they don't realize the need to simply sign in with their free account to do so," said Steve Rockwood, FamilySearch CEO. "They are basically arriving in the parking lot but not coming inside for the main event," he said about website visitors who do not sign in.

FamilySearch is committed to patron privacy and does not share personal account information with any third party without a patron's consent.
See Registering to Use FamilySearch.org for information about creating a free account.

FINDMYPAST GRANTS FIVE DAYS OF FREE ACCESS TO ALL MILITARY RECORDS

FINDMYPAST GRANTS FIVE DAYS OF FREE ACCESS TO ALL MILITARY RECORDS AHEAD OF VETERANS DAY 2017

·         Findmypast makes entire collection of more than 80 million world military records free for five days

·         All UK, Irish, Australian, Canadian and US military records free from the 8th to the 12th November 2017

London, UK.

Leading family history website Findmypast has today announced that they will be making their entire collection of world military records free for five days in honour of Veterans Day 2017.

From 8th November until midnight, 12th November 2017, all 80 million records within Findmypast's "Military, Armed Forces and Conflict" category will be completely free to search and explore, providing family historians from around the globe with the opportunity to uncover the stories of the military heroes within their own family.

This will include free access to:

·         Over 50 million US and Canada military records

·         Over 25 million World War 1 United States Army Draft Registration Cards

·         Over 6.2 million Civil War Soldiers, Sailors and Medal records

·         Over 1.3 million United States Civil War Pension File Index records

·         Over 110,000 records covering Revolutionary War pensions and veterans

·         Millions of records covering US forces in Korea, Vietnam and WW2

·         Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and British Army service records including British Army records both for WW1 and pre WW1 - these multiple page documents were released in partnership with The National Archives and are packed with fascinating biographical details such as the names and addresses of next of kin, and character references from commanding officers

·         Over 2.6 million POW records in our exclusive Prisoners of War 1715-1945 collection

·         Over 1.1 million WW2 casualty records in our collection of British Army Casualty Lists.

·         Over 6 million British medals and awards records

Military records are vital genealogical resources. By providing free access to these important documents, Findmypast will enable researchers to uncover highly detailed accounts of their ancestors' military service including physical descriptions, details of the decorations, promotions or awards they received, where they were stationed, and even their disciplinary and medical records. Findmypast's extensive collections of POW records, Casualty Lists and Honour Rolls will also help researchers to commemorate the incredible sacrifices made by previous generations in defence of their country.

Free Live Webinar

On Thursday November 9th, Findmypast will be hosting a free Veterans Day Webinar featuring in-house military expert, Paul Nixon, newspaper expert Aoife O'Connor and special guest, National Archives record specialist Audrey Collins. Viewers will receive expert tips for using Findmypast's collection of military records and historical newspapers to create detailed profiles of their military ancestor's lives and Audrey Collins will be taking a detailed look at how the 1939 Register can be an invaluable tool for tracing British relatives at the outbreak of World War 2. The Webinar will also include a live Q&A session in which viewers will be invited to submit their questions to the hosts as well as Findmypast's team of experts.

Dear Primos and friends:

Last month, looking forward to November, Michael Perez made a casual comment, "I wish someone would write about the REAL first Thanksgiving.."  I said, "You mean in Texas?"  He said, "Yes" and I said, "I did!!"   I had almost forgotten, until Michael mentioned it.

The First European Thanksgiving was between the Spanish and the Indians along the Rio Grande, April 30, 1598.

I was serving on the Hispanic Arts Council at The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, CA.  In the spring of 1990, we presented the play, the "First European Thanksgiving on the American Continent" performed in the garden area of the museum.

I did the research in the Long Beach State University library. The series of 10 scenes were based on historical information found on those documents  We had a cast about 30.  Both the number of scenes and large cast for a 40-50 minute play was intentional: to limit the rehearsal time and script memorization requirements. Our single performance in period dress and to a full audience was very well received.

The script is available to read and use:.  http://somosprimos.com/thanksgiving/thanksgiving.htm.  Hopefully some of you might want to make use of the script next year, in some form: play, Readers' Theater, or radio.

Another memory lane sharing.  While on the Bowers Arts Council, I was also a member of the International Pen Women. In 1994,  I brought both groups together and coordinated a CALAVERAS poetry contest in celebration of El Dia de Los Muertos. With the help of the Orange County Register and the cooperation of the Santa Ana School District, we had both students and adults involved.  It was a very fun community event  Read some of the winning Calaveras under Culture in this issue.

With sincerest thanks to readers and submitters to Somos Primos.  It is like opening a present when I read the family stories, community activities, and personal comments which I receive daily.  I have learned so much.  It is a joy.

One of my blessings is the privilege of providing a venue for your voices to be heard.  May you and your loved ones be safe and thankful for the precious gift of life.

Mimi
